80th BIRTHDAY OF THE HOLY FATHER BENEDICT XVI - minisheets

Joseph Ratzinger was born on 16 April 1927 in Marktl am Inn in Bavaria, Germany. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1951. He was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising on 25 March 1977 and consecrated Archbishop on 28 May 1977. Pope Paul VI created him a Cardinal in theConsistory of 27 June 1977. During the conclave of 19 April 2005 he was elected Supreme Pontiff. This series of stamps recalls the places surrounding these events. The three miniature sheets each feature a photo of Pope Benedict XVI and in between the stamps is decorative artwork depicting: the St. Oswald Parish church where the Pope was baptized on the day of his birth; the two towers of Munich's Cathedral of Our Lady with a close-up of the Column of Mary; and the facade of the St. John Lateran Basilica, Cathedral of Rome.
