SEVENTH WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES MILAN 2012

SEVENTH WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES MILAN 2012

The theme of the Seventh World Meeting of Families to be held from 30 May to 3 June is: "The Family: Work and Celebration." In a letter to the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, the Holy Father Benedict XVI noted that the family, work and holidays are "gifts and blessings to help us to live a fully human life." In our day the organization of work is conceived of and implemented in terms of the market and its rules, marked by an increasingly frenetic rhythm. A holiday becomes more of an opportunity to escape from this daily routine, taking on a strongly individualistic nature, instead of being an occasion to spend time together with the family. The gathering will highlight the experiences and testimonies of families coming to Milan from around the world and inspired by the family par excellence of Nazareth. The idea is to promote a reflection on the different aspects of life in modern society, seeking compatibility between work and family. At the same time, the aim is to recover a true sense of celebration, especially on Sundays, the day of reconciliation with God and among members of the smallest type of community: husband and wife, parents and children, and people of different generations. The reflection will focus on the qualitative nature of relationships among the fundamental institutions of society, as well as the importance of holidays and their profound Christian significance.
