"Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith" (cf. Col 2:7) is the theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 26th World Youth Day, one of the most important events involving young Catholics from around the world. From 16 to 21 August, the host city of Madrid will be the stage for these great events to be marked by dialogue, encounter, discussion and prayer in the name of Jesus Christ. The message for WYD calls on young people in particular to be global witnesses to Christian hope and to endeavour to become an instrument of the Word of God. The World Youth Days are the outcome of a prophetic intuition of Blessed John Paul II and have been supported by his successor Benedict XVI. WYD has become a global event which features reflection on important themes today from a Christian point of view. The celebratory stamp is a joint issue with Spain and features the official logo for the celebration.
