150° ANNIVERSARIO DELLA MORTE DI GIOACHINO ROSSINI

150th ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF GIOACHINO ROSSINI

The Philatelic Office of the Vatican commemorates the 150th anniversary of the death of Gioachino Rossini with one stamp produced by artist Daniela Fusco and with a music CD featuring some of his most superb compositions. The postage stamp features the profile of the composer from Pesaro emerging from the curtain, a symbol of his rich operatic work, while the figure of the young son of William Tell and the silhouette of “The Thieving Magpie” (La Gazza Ladra) in the background recall two of his greatest masterpieces. Young Milanese pianist, Ginevra Costantini Negri, a protagonist in numerous international initiatives, offers her first Rossinian recorded performance.
