AEROGRAMME 600th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ELECTION OF POPE MARTIN V

This year’s aerogramme marks the 600th Anniversary of the election of Pope Martin V. Elected during the Council of Constance, he succeeded in bringing back to Rome the papal see after the Western Schism. Immediately after his election he worked to reorganize the Papal States: he reestablished papal authority and reputation, he reassessed the finances of the state and undertook a vast program of rebuilding churches and public buildings falling into ruin, also enlisting the help of eminent artists.
