Commemorative Cover, Special Postmark and Folder Dedicated to “Mary, Mother of the Family”
The Postal and Philatelic Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate has produced a commemorative cover, a special postmark and a folder to mark the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary, celebrated on September 12.
The folder is entitled “Mary, Mother of the Family,” the same title under which the church of the Governorate is dedicated. The church houses an altarpiece depicting the Virgin Mary under this same title. It was Pope Benedict XVI who bestowed this dedication upon the church in 2007.
The commemorative cover features a detail from the painting preserved in the church, a work by the Umbrian painter Francesco Melanzio (1465–1526), on the occasion of the fifth centenary of his death. The masterpiece was restored with the support of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums.
The enclosed €1.30 postage stamp was issued on 26 February 2026 to mark the “Sixth Centenary of the Apparition of Our Lady of Monte Berico.”
The special postmark is inspired by the altarpiece in the church of the Governorate. The postmark also bears the inscription “Maria, Madre della Famiglia • Poste Vaticane 12.09.2026.”
The commemorative cover costs €3.00, or €10.00 when purchased as part of the illustrated folder. The products described above are available for purchase at all Postal and Philatelic Service offices, including the post office in Saint Peter’s Square.
