  • Appointment of members of the Commission on Artificial Intelligence

    Sr. Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, has appointed the members of the Commission on Artificial Intelligence. The five members include officials from the Legal Office, from the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems, and from the Directorate of Security and Civil Protection Services, in accordance with the Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence that took effect on 1 January 2025, with the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State’s Decree No. DCCII. The appointment is a step forward in the implementation of the prescribed norms.

  • In Milan a Delegation from Vatican City participates in the Ital_IA Conference

    On October 8 and 9, the conference “Ital_IA – Between Public Data and Algorithms” was held in the Carassa-Dadda Auditorium of the University Politecnico di Milano. The event was promoted by the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency and Sogei (General Information Technology Company), with the scientific contribution of the Politecnico di Milano. It consisted of two days of discussion dedicated to the role of Artificial Intelligence and public data in decision-making processes and in services for citizens and institutions.

    The topic of artificial intelligence is often “perceived as ambiguous: on the one hand, it generates excitement for the possibilities it offers, while on the other it gives rise to fear for the consequences it foreshadows”, Pope Francis said in his address at the G7 Session on Artificial Intelligence, in Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, on Friday, 14 June.
