Saint Rose of Lima “forever young” at the heart of the Church 

“Rose is the forever young Saint, the one who has inspired sympathy and empathy in millions of faithful not only in Peru, but throughout the entire New World; everywhere her example and her renown are widespread.” These were the words of Sr. Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, during the conference entitled “Saint Rose of Lima, the First Saint of the New World: Contemporary Reflections,” held on Tuesday afternoon, January 27, in the Aula Magna of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Il Governatorato dello Stato della Città Vaticano nella realizzazione del programma di sviluppo della mobilità sostenibile, lanciato nel novembre dello scorso anno e denominato “Conversione Ecologica 2030”, continua a sostituire gradualmente le vetture di proprietà dello Stato con veicoli elettrici, al fine di rendere il proprio parco auto a impatto zero entro il 2030.

September 29, 2025, marks the 90th anniversary of the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Vatican Observatory at the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo. The Observatory is one of the oldest astronomical institutes in the world: its origins go back to the reform of the calendar from Julian to Gregorian in 1582. It was refounded in the Vatican by Pope Leo XIII in 1891 with the motu proprio Ut Mysticam.

The Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of the Vatican City State continues its collaboration with Villanova University by hosting, in 2025, students from Philadelphia for the second semester of the academic year. This program, created with the goal of connecting academic research with the practical needs of the Governorate, has once again proven to be a valuable opportunity for both institutions.

Pope Leo XIV signed the oversized replica of the commemorative stamp

During his visit to the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy marking the 325th anniversary of its foundation, Pope Leo XIV signed the oversized reproduction of the commemorative stamp issued by the Postal and Philatelic Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of the Vatican City State. The event took place on Monday afternoon, April 27, at the historic headquarters of the Pontifical Academy, Palazzo Severoli, located in Piazza della Minerva in Rome.

From Darkness to Light

During Easter Vigil, the night in which we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, the Church speaks to us in a powerful language—its language of symbols. Three of these, in particular, help us to understand what takes place on this night of the Resurrection: light, water, and the intoning of a new song—the Easter Alleluia.

Another step has been achieved in the “Ecological Conversion 2035” program, launched in 2022 aimed at reducing carbon emissions to zero. The Vatican State’s electric vehicle charging service is now functioning.

Papa Francesco ha affidato al Cardinale Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, Presidente del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano, e all'Arcivescovo Giordano Piccinotti, Presidente dell'Amministrazione del Patrimonio della Sede Apostolica, “l'incarico di realizzare un impianto agrivoltaico ubicato all'interno della zona extraterritoriale di Santa Maria di Galeria, che assicuri, non soltanto l'alimentazione elettrica della stazione radio ivi esistente, ma anche il completo sostentamento energetico dello Stato della Città del Vaticano”. Così nella Lettera Apostolica in forma di Motu Proprio Fratello Sole del 21 giugno 2024.

Enrollment to the “Saint Francis and Saint Clare” Child Care Centre, promoted by the Governorate, is now open to children of Vatican employees.

A celebration to say “Arrivederci” until next year

A show with songs, dance and music and an explosion of joy and enthusiasm. Like many knights errant, children who participated in Estate Ragazzi at the Vatican reached the end of their journey. They decided to organize a party to say farewell. On Tuesday afternoon, 25 July, they met in the Paul VI Hall and invited Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, Sister Raffaella Petrini, President and General Secretary of the Governorate of Vatican City State, respectively, parents, relatives and friends. The Cardinal greeted the children and joked with them.

“Tutt’Altro – Quando l’Altro è Tutto” (Something else all together – When the Other is Everything) is the theme of the sixth edition of the summer camp, Estate Ragazzi in the Vatican, which will resume on Monday, 16 June and run until Friday, 1 August. Promoted by the Governorate of Vatican City State, it is open to children of employees of the Governorate and of the Holy See.

A summer initiative for Governorate and Holy See employees

The Knights errant of the literary genius Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra – Don Quixote de la Mancha and Sancho Panza – will be the protagonists of Estate Ragazzi,  2024, the Vatican’s summer camp, promoted by the Governorate of Vatican City State and organized by Father Franco Fontana, Director of the Salesian community in the Vatican and chaplain of the Directorate for Security and Civil Protection and of Vatican Museums. Participating children will explore the characters of the literary masterpiece, “The Adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha” (original title in Spanish El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha)and will encounter new challenges and heroic adventures focused on the themes of kindness, generosity and courage.

I Cavalieri erranti usciti dal genio letterario di Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra - Don Chisciotte della Mancia e Sancio Panza - saranno i protagonisti dell'Estate Ragazzi in Vaticano dell'edizione 2024. Su di loro si confronteranno i bambini e i ragazzi che parteciperanno all'oratorio estivo promosso dal Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano e coordinato da don Franco Fontana, direttore della comunità salesiana in Vaticano e cappellano della Direzione dei servizi di sicurezza e di protezione civile e dei Musei Vaticani. Attraverso la storia del capolavoro della letteratura mondiale Don Chisciotte della Mancia (in spagnolo El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha), i ragazzi saranno stimolati ad affrontare nuove sfide, a compiere avventure e imprese eroiche intorno a tematiche quali la gentilezza, la generosità, il rispetto e il coraggio.
