Collaboration with Villanova University and the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate

New Quarter Comes to an End

A new quarter has successfully concluded with the internship program involving Villanova University, which featured three students from the American university, once again confirming the strength and value of the collaboration between the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems and the U.S. institution for higher learning.

Sophia, Patrick and Kovas brought enthusiasm, fresh skills, and a valuable contribution to the Directorate’s projects. Sophia and Patrick immersed themselves in the delicate work of archaeological and museum surveys, with the goal of reconstructing three-dimensional point clouds that represent a fundamental asset for documentation and conservation. Kovas put his expertise and meticulous approach at the service of the Vatican Museums’ online shop, creating a semantic-structural atlas of the website that will serve as the foundation for a future reengineering of the platform.

The exchange with the three students was much more than a simple training experience: it was a moment of mutual growth, in which the sharing of knowledge and working methods enriched both the students and the colleagues involved. The results achieved were particularly appreciated for the continuity they ensure with the work carried out by interns in the previous semester and with what will be developed by subsequent students whose arrival is expected at the beginning of 2026. The material produced will also prove valuable for the production teams, who will integrate it into their processes and use it for further developments.

The year 2026 will begin under the banner of continuity as well as innovation: the collaboration with Villanova will continue to explore new thematic areas and embrace emerging technologies, keeping alive the spirit of research and experimentation that has always characterized this partnership.

The initiative was made possible thanks to the commitment of Professors Daniel Joyce and Frank Klassner—longstanding figures and constant points of reference in this Villanova collaboration—and Joseph Lennon, the liaison between the Directorate and the University’s faculty who will continue as such in the upcoming months.
