Computer skills training courses offered by the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems

Awareness and knowledge of resources and limitations

Twenty days from the entry into force of the Decree of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State on Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence, the Governorate is offering computer skills training courses.

The courses were organized thanks to the professional contribution of technicians from  the Information Systems Service and the Internet Service Provider of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems. They are aimed at employees of the Governorate and are structured with exams and assessments.

Titled “Computer Awareness”, the first course aims to provide basic knowledge of the tools and fundamental skills involved in information technology, and to show participants how to use digital technologies in everyday life, with attention to security, data management and the configuration of devices, in order to improve their digital fluency.

The second course, titled, “Excel: The Basics”, is aimed at providing the basic concepts of Excel. During the course, participants will become familiar with the software application, learning the main steps involved in data inputting and how to use tools to format spreadsheets more effectively.

The third course, “Basic Excel: Management of Data”, has the objective of training participants on the use of formulas and functions in a safe, independent and professional way, in order to better analyze and manage data.

The following course, “Basic Excel: Graphics”, explores Excel’s graphics range and how to better use new graphics tools, with special attention to the different types.

The course, “Structured Word Documents”, offers participants the basic concepts of Microsoft Word, including how to format files, organize documents and use lists and tables, as well as the essential skills to produce clear and professional documents.

The following course, “Word: Advanced Tools” delves deeper into Microsoft Word’s advanced tools for creating professional and complex documents. Participants will learn how to use tables, graphics and review and printing tools, as well as how to customize themes and models, improving documents’ aesthetics and functionality.

The course titled, “Security Awareness”, offers the basic tools to tackle cyber risk in a changing workplace, including how to recognize major digital risks, protect data and devices and implement basic security procedures, with a focus on privacy, management of credentials and good working practices.

Lastly, there are two courses on Artificial Intelligence. The first course, titled, “Basics”, introduces basic concepts, with special attention to applications, the difference between weak AI and strong AI and the capabilities of machines and the responsibilities connected with them. It offers practical approaches, such as the creation of effective prompts for various tasks.

The second course is titled, “Artificial Intelligence: Prompting”. It provides advanced skills in Generative Artificial Intelligence, focusing on prompts and their practical use within a workplace context. Participants will learn how to create effective prompts, use advanced tools and integrate models on existing platforms, through practical exercises with technologies such as ChatGPT and DALL-E.
