  • Per la Farmacia vaticana una missione di servizio e carità

    Ilocali della Farmacia Vaticana si rinnovano. Dopo sette mesi di attività in container provvisori allestiti dietro il palazzo del Belvedere, da lunedì 3 agosto si torna ai tradizionali punti vendita. E gli avventori si troveranno davanti a un restyling completo degli spazi.

    Sostituiti i pavimenti, il soffitto, l’illuminazione, sono stati sistemati altri quattro scivoli per la distribuzione dei medicinali attraverso i robot Bd Rowa. In tal modo si è raggiunto il numero di sei porte automatiche, dalle quali i tre robot fanno arrivare in soli 8 secondi i prodotti al farmacista richiedente, come spiega il direttore della farmacia, il religioso dei Fatebenefratelli, fra Binish Thomas Mulackal.

    E questa è solo una delle tante innovazioni introdotte con i recenti lavori di ristrutturazione. In particolare, oltre all’automatizzazione della vendita è stato attivato anche lo “smartticket”. Si tratta di un indicatore completo di tutto quanto riguarda il prodotto: basta inquadrarlo e con un semplice click del cellulare vengono illustrati tutti i dettagli. Sono state anche installate vetrine virtuali con schermi collegati a computer, in modo da poter visionare i medicinali e gli integratori e avere maggior spazio dietro al banco vendita. Anche le tradizionali cassettiere per i medicinali sono state eliminate per avere più posto a disposizione. I lavori, portati avanti nell’ottica di una gestione compatibile con l’ecologia, sono stati necessari per mettere a norma gli impianti tecnici e consentire l’ottimizzazione degli spazi. In primo luogo, dunque, la Farmacia Vaticana offre un ambiente più accogliente al visitatore e permette al farmacista di erogare un servizio efficace. È stata prestata molta attenzione all’estetica degli interni e si è cercato di utilizzare apparecchiature, mobili, scaffalature, pavimenti, infissi e illuminazione sostenibili dal punto di vista ambientale. In particolare, l’adozione di apparecchi ad alta efficienza energetica non solo aiuterà a ridurre l’inquinamento, ma consentirà significativi risparmi energetici.

    Senza dimenticare che la missione della Farmacia Vaticana è quella di contribuire alla salute del corpo e dare speranza a quanti soffrono, anche attraverso la disponibilità all’ascolto. In prima linea, infatti, ci sono i farmacisti che con la loro professionalità permettono un uso sicuro, efficace e razionale dei prodotti. Ciò garantisce che il singolo paziente riceva il medicinale giusto al momento giusto, insieme al consiglio più appropriato.

    È stato anche rinnovato il sito web della Farmacia Vaticana per assicurare la possibilità di controllare lo stato dei prodotti ordinati ancora in sospeso. Altro elemento innovativo, l’adozione di un sistema di elimina code in tempo reale.

    Certamente, la pandemia da covid- 19 ha impresso un’accelerazione nell’ottimizzazione degli spazi. D’altra parte, il palazzo del Belvedere in cui essa si trova, non era una struttura nata per ospitarla, per cui a causa della vetustà dei locali è stato necessario intervenire.

    Attualmente, la farmacia occupa globalmente una superficie di 1.000 metri quadrati suddivisa in varie zone, tra cui una grande sala adibita alla vendita, i magazzini sotterranei, gli uffici e il reparto cosmetico. Vengono gestite circa 40.000 referenze (farmaci, parafarmaci, integratori e prodotti di igiene e dermocosmesi), impiegando 65 dipendenti, oltre ai promoters delle aziende che collaborano nel reparto cosmetico. Questa équipe di farmacisti, religiosi Fatebenefratelli, magazzinieri e personale amministrativo, come una grande famiglia, si occupa quotidianamente dell’accoglienza e del servizio delle circa 2.000 persone che accedono, metà delle quali provengono da fuori lo Stato della Città del Vaticano. Non è la prima volta che la Farmacia si rinnova. Fin dalla sua nascita nel 1874 sono stati effettuati vari interventi e sistemazioni dei locali.

    L’ultimo grande ampliamento risale 1989, ma negli ultimi tre anni erano stati rinnovati il magazzino (2017-2018), gli uffici dell’amministrazione e il reparto cosmetico (2018-2019) e, infine, la sala del punto vendita (2019-2020).

    Symbol of Resilience and Longevity

    The Ginkgo Biloba survives in polluted urban environments, tolerates various soil types, and resists diseases and parasites. In many Asian cultures, it is a symbol of longevity. The tree offers numerous benefits, including improving urban air quality and creating shaded, cooling areas during the warm seasons. A specimen of this species was planted on March 6 in the Vatican Gardens.

    In memory of the Apparition of Our Lady of Altagracia

    Our Lady of Altagracia has been protecting and accompanying the people of the Dominican Republic since 1514.  A replica of the venerated image can also be found in the Vatican Garden’s Bastione Maestro. According to tradition, the image appeared on an orange tree. In memory of the Apparition and in an effort to strengthen the bond between Vatican City State and the faithful of the Caribbean nation, on Tuesday morning, 23 July, Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State and Luis Emilio Montalvo Arzeno, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Holy See, planted an orange tree in the Vatican Gardens. Salvatore Farina, Director of the Directorate for Infrastructures and Services, was also present at the tree planting event.

On the occasion of the liturgical feast of the Archangel, who is also the Patron Saint of the Gendarmerie Corps, on Sunday morning, 29 September, Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, celebrated Holy Mass in the Vatican’s Church of Maria, Madre della Famiglia (Mary, Mother of the Family). Fr Luigi Trapelli, national coordinator of chaplains of the State Police and five chaplains concelebrated with him.

    Perhaps not everyone knows that in the Vatican too, personal data is protected by law. On 30 April 2024, with Decree No. DCLVII, the Pontifical Commission of Vatican City State promulgated its first General Regulation on the protection of personal data.

  • Pope Francis appoints Sr. Raffaella Petrini as President of the Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate

    On Saturday, 15 February, Pope Francis appointed Sr. Raffaella Petrini, FSE, President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

    The appointment will be effective on 1 March.

    Sr. Petrini’s appointment represents continuity, as she has been serving as Secretary General of the Governorate since 4 November 2021. Prior to that, she had served the Holy See as an Official of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

    Pope Francis has appointed the following as Secretaries General of the Governorate of Vatican City State, effective 1 March 2025: Archbishop Emilio Nappa, who has been serving as Assistant Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization in the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, and as President of the Pontifical Mission Societies; Mr. Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi (lawyer), who has been serving as Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

    Five hundred colored balloons made of natural rubber - all biodegradable, including the rope, expression of the vocation to protect creation of the Governorate - launched into the sky to express joy for meeting with Pope Francis. On each were impressed the words of the Pontiff: "To you, dear boy, to you, dear girl, you are precious in the eyes of God".

    Pope Francis supports large families and offers them financial assistance.

    The Pope has decided that, as of 1 January 2025, permanent employees of the Governorate with large families, including three or more children, will receive a monthly bonus of  300 euros.

    On Tuesday afternoon, 31 December 2024, Pope Francis visited the Nativity Scene from Grado, located in Saint Peter’s Square. Earlier, he had presided at First Vespers for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and the Te Deum hymn of thanksgiving for the conclusion of the year.

About six hours later, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. He was the first man to do so. Buzz Aldrin followed him 19 minutes later. It was July 20, 1969—a date that marked a major milestone in the history of humanity.

    A word of thanks to all present for their faithful participation and for all they do—sometimes with great sacrifice—to live united as a family, offering this message and thus witnessing in the spirit left to us by Jesus Christ.

    Before a square filled with parents, grandparents, and children, Pope Leo XIV appeared at the main entrance of the Governorate building and expressed his joy at being able to share this special moment dedicated to the family. This was the highlight of the “Governorate Family Celebration,” which has now become an annual event for the Governorate’s employees. The Pope’s surprise appearance on Saturday evening, September 6, was met with applause and great enthusiasm from the families and especially the children. He emphasized the importance of gathering together to celebrate family bonds and offered affectionate words to the little ones. His message resonated with those present, drawing more applause.

    Welcomed by a joyful crowd, Pope Leo XIV arrived on Sunday afternoon, July 6th, at the estate of Villa Barberini in Castel Gandolfo, where he will stay until Sunday, July 20th.
