Palazzo San Carlo - Plaque in honor of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina

A plaque honoring the renowned composer and organist Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, on the fifth centenary of his birth, has been unveiled on the façade of Palazzo San Carlo in Piazza di Santa Marta in Vatican City.

The ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon, 22 November, on the liturgical memorial of Saint Cecilia. Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music and Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, blessed the plaque and delivered a brief address. The Dominican Father Robert Mehlhart, Dean of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, opened the gathering, and the Polyphonic Choir of the same Institute performed a musical interlude.

The plaque was installed by the staff of the Directorate of Infrastructure and Services of the Governorate of Vatican City State.
