Inauguration of the installation of photovoltaic panels in the entrance of the Vatican Museums and of charging stations for electric vehicles

Electric energy from renewable resources

Completed in record time almost on the eve of the Jubilee Year, a new photovoltaic system has been installed in the Cortile delle Corazze in the entrance of the Vatican Museums and will produce electric energy from a renewable resource.

With this project, the Governorate of Vatican City State is implementing the guidelines Pope Francis outlined in the Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si’, and fulfilling the international obligations it assumed with the signing of the Paris Agreement.

The project was completed within six months, despite the logistical difficulties involved, and is part of a project to develop systems using renewable resources, aimed at maximizing water resources and promoting electric mobility, in cooperation with Gruppo Acea spa.

The photovoltaic installation and the charging stations will be inaugurated on Friday morning, 20 December, at 11:00 a.m. by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, in the presence of Sr. Raffaella Petrini and Mr. Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, respectively, Secretary General, and Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate.

Mr. Salvatore Farina, Director of the Directorate for Infrastructures and Services, and Mr Silvio Screpanti, Deputy Director, who worked on the execution of the photovoltaic system, and Ms. Barbara Jatta, Director of Museums and Cultural Heritage, will represent the Governorate at the inauguration ceremony.
