A New Collection of Herbal and Specialized Products

A tradition renewed, rooted in the very vocation of the Vatican Pharmacy: the preparation of herbal products. Just as in the past, when expert friars of the Order of St. John of God would provide healing herbal teas and infusions, today the Pharmacy’s professionals continue to produce, in their well-equipped laboratory, a wide range of natural health remedies.

Thus, the Vatican Pharmacy is not only a place for dispensing medicines and industrially manufactured products but also a producer of herbal preparations, facial and body creams, perfumes, soaps, and supplements, all created in-house. On the occasion of the Jubilee Year, the Vatican Pharmacy is launching a new webpage on the site www.farmaciavaticana.va where visitors can browse the catalogue of products for sale, bearing its original brand.

What prompted the creation of a webpage dedicated to your products?

The decision stems from the need to offer a more accessible and modern service to our clients, both local and international. We want everyone—even those unable to visit the Vatican Pharmacy in person—to learn about our history, our values, and our range of herbal products, while providing transparency and detailed information.

What is the Vatican Pharmacy’s vision regarding the development and production of new herbal products?

Our vision is to unite the Pharmacy’s centuries-old tradition with scientific innovation. We aim to develop herbal products that are effective, safe, and respectful of the individual, prioritizing quality ingredients and sustainable production processes. Our goal is to meet current needs without ever losing sight of our historical identity.

What are the main criteria used for selecting herbal formulations?

The main criteria are safety, efficacy, and the quality of raw materials. Each formulation is carefully studied, favoring functional and well-tested ingredients, with particular attention to the needs of those with sensitive skin or specific conditions. We work closely with experts and follow strict quality control protocols.

What new herbal products are currently in development or have been recently introduced?

At present, our new range of research include products dedicated to the specific well-being of men and women, designed to meet their respective needs. We have recently introduced new mother tinctures for liver and digestive wellness and for mood support, as well as Coenzyme Q10 capsules and Spirulina capsules, prized for their energizing and restorative properties.

How does the Vatican Pharmacy address the specific needs of its clients, including sensitive skin, allergies, or preferences for natural products?

We are very attentive to individual needs. We offer hypoallergenic products, such as those free from SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), and many of our formulations are suitable for sensitive skin. We also continuously listen to customer feedback to improve and personalize our product range.

What are the flagship skin care products (for face and body) available at the Pharmacy? Are there specific products for particular skin conditions or age groups?

Our skin care line includes a wide selection of products designed to meet the needs of the whole family. We offer body washes suitable for all skin types, free from SLS, as well as face, hand, and body creams, aftershave balms, hyaluronic acid gel, anti-aging creams, and lip and eye serums. In addition to products for daily routines, we also provide targeted treatments for specific conditions, such as bedsores or acne. Every formulation is designed to ensure effectiveness, tolerability, and safety—even for the most sensitive skin.

Are there fragrances of particular historical or religious significance for the Vatican Pharmacy or for the Vatican itself?

Yes, some fragrances are inspired by liturgical tradition and Vatican history, such as gold, frankincense, myrrh, and nard, which carry strong symbolic and religious meaning. These essences are often used in exclusive products that evoke the spirituality and history of the Church.

Which perfumery products are most requested by Vatican Pharmacy customers?

The most requested products are Eau de Cologne and Lavender waters with fresh, citrusy notes, essences inspired by the Vatican Gardens and traditional fragrances like frankincense, myrrh, and gold. Also highly appreciated are perfumes with natural ingredients and exclusive lines that reflect the Vatican’s history and spirituality. In addition to personal fragrances, we also offer a wide range of home fragrances, ideal for creating refined and welcoming atmospheres both at home and in workplaces.
