A new Video dedicated to the Band of the Gendarmerie Corps

In the Service of Music

The Musical Band of the Gendarmerie Corps of the Vatican City State, officially established in October 2007 but heir to a much older tradition, represents one of the most significant musical institutions in the Vatican landscape. A new video has been published on the YouTube channel of the Governorate of the Vatican City State to pay tribute to this institution.

Led by Maestro Stefano Iannilli and coordinated by Deputy Commissioner Mauro Colaiacomo, the Band is composed of about one hundred volunteer musicians, all graduates of major Italian conservatories. The elegant blue uniform worn during performances recalls that of the Gendarmes on ordinary duty, highlighting the strong bond between music and the institution.

Renowned for the richness of its repertoire and the formal excellence of its interpretations, the Band accompanies numerous events in the presence of the Holy Father in St Peter’s Square, takes part each year in the solemn feast of St Michael the Archangel, Patron of the Gendarmerie and of the Vatican City State, in Castel Gandolfo, and enlivens official ceremonies both in the Vatican and abroad. Wherever it performs, the ensemble evokes deep enthusiasm and admiration with audiences.

A distinctive feature of the Band is the sincere and generous commitment of its members, who serve entirely on a voluntary basis, driven solely by their love for music and their desire to serve the Holy Father.
