Planning for the Next Great Jubilee: Bishop of Palencia visits the Governorate with the international delegation “Journey to Redemption 2033 (J2R2033)”
The international delegation “Journey to Redemption 2033 (J2R2033)” led by Monsignor Mikel Garciandía Goñi, Bishop of Palencia in Spain, spent a week in Rome for operational meetings aimed at defining the preparatory pathway for the Extraordinary Jubilee of 2033.
The delegation is responsible for promoting the global project “Rome 25 – Santiago 27 – Jerusalem 33,” an initiative that originated within the Spanish Episcopal Conference and is supported by numerous dioceses, ecclesial movements and European Episcopal Conferences. The program forms part of a progressive journey of preparation that will accompany the Church toward the Extraordinary Jubilee of 2033.
Meetings were scheduled with the Dicasteries of the Roman Curia involved in organizing the Holy Year, with the aim of ensuring a structured, cross-cutting and theologically sound preparation appropriate to the universal scope of the event.
Alongside its institutional activities, the J2R2033 Committee also sought to highlight the spiritual dimension of the stay in Rome. During the week, the delegation took part in Masses celebrated at places of particular significance connected to the history of Redemption, offering these liturgies for the young people around the world involved in the initiative.
Among these was the Mass celebrated by Monsignor Garciandía Goñi on Friday morning, 23 January, in the Church of Mary, Mother of the Family, located in the the Governorate building. At the conclusion of the celebration, together with a group of Spanish faithful, he went to pray before the Grotto of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens. With this visit, the Bishop marked the second anniversary of his Episcopal ordination, giving thanks to the Lord for this gift and reaffirming his entrustment to the Mother of the Church.
Before Mary Immaculate, he also entrusted her the young people and the “Journey to Redemption 2033 (J2R2033)” project. On this occasion, he also met with Sister Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate of the Vatican City State.
