Agreement between the Governorate of Vatican City State and Elli Mobility for charging services and electric vehicle fleet management

An agreement was signed on Friday, April 10, between the Governorate of Vatican City and Elli Mobility, a company of the Volkswagen Group. The agreement concerns the adoption of Elli Mobility’s card and the use of its centralized digital platform to manage the charging of the electric vehicle fleet.

Through the use of the Elli card, employees and collaborators of the Governorate can access over one million public charging points across Europe during official travel outside Vatican territory.

The available pricing plans include alternating current (AC), direct current (DC), and ultra-fast charging (IONITY), allowing for clear cost control and predictable charging expenses. At the same time, by using the centralized digital platform dedicated to fleet management—Elli Fleet Charging—the Governorate can manage charging cards, payments, charging cycles, and billing processes. Fleet administrators can therefore monitor charging activities, track energy consumption, digitally assign cards, and export data related to charges, both for accounting purposes and for reporting.

This collaboration represents a further step forward in the long-term sustainability strategy promoted by the Governorate, which aims to convert its vehicle fleet to achieve zero-emission mobility by 2030.

In recent years, Vatican City has progressively expanded its activities in the field of electric mobility. Among the milestones of this transition, in 2024 nearly 40 electric vehicles from the Volkswagen ID range were delivered, followed in 2025 by additional electric vehicles for public services.
