The Vatican’s Gendarmerie Band to Perform at the Music Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto

On the occasion of the world renowned Festival dei Due Mondi, the Musical Band of the Gendarmerie Corps of the Vatican City State — conducted by Maestro Stefano Iannilli and coordinated by Deputy Commissioner Mauro Colaiacomo — will perform in concert on the evening of Monday, July 7, in Piazza del Duomo in Spoleto, Italy. The event is dedicated to peace, aiming to unite diverse cultures and traditions and to build bridges between distant yet kindred worlds.

The program will feature famous Italian works, film soundtracks, Argentine tango, and jazz. Through this repertoire, the Gendarmerie Band seeks to show that music is a universal language, capable of transcending all borders and boundaries.

The Band has selected pieces that convey messages of peace, dialogue, and shared beauty. Each performance becomes a moment of connection, a symbol of friendship, and a message of hope and harmony among cultures and time.

Within the context of one of the most prestigious international festivals, the concert is meant to offer a moment of reflection and enjoyment through music — a reminder of the importance of building a society grounded in dialogue, solidarity, and peace.

The program includes: the Pontifical Anthem by Charles Gounod (conducted by Assistant Conductor Maestro Francesco Carmignani); Pilgrims of Hope, the official anthem of the 2025 Jubilee; Memories from Fellini, with music by Nino Rota, arranged by Loreto Ruggieri; Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot, performed by tenor Vasco Maria Vagnoli; O Mio Babbino Caro from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, performed by soprano Anna Kazlova; The Trio from the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly by Sergio Leone, with music by Ennio Morricone; Por una cabeza, featuring violin soloist Paolo Coluzzi; Mambo by Leonard Bernstein, featuring marimba soloist Riccardo Giorgi; Summertime from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess; Un amore così grande, again with tenor Vasco Maria Vagnoli; Caravan; and Il Canto degli Italiani.
