New Deputy Director for the Vatican Health and Hygiene Directorate

On 1 September, Paolo Maurizio Soave, was appointed as Deputy Director of the Vatican’s department of Health and Hygiene for a five-year term. He takes the position left vacant by Dr. Luigi Carbone, who, as of 1 August, succeeded Professor Andrea Arcangeli as Director, following the latter’s retirement upon reaching the age limit.

With his experience and professional background in the healthcare sector, Dr. Soave represents a guarantee of continuity. During this Jubilee period, the Directorate of Health and Hygiene has proved capable of meeting the challenges facing the healthcare system, starting with the protection of pilgrims and visitors arriving in Rome for the Holy Year.

In particular, the Directorate of Health and Hygiene is called upon to play an essential role in safeguarding people’s health at a time of major influx for Jubilee audiences and events attended by the Pope. It should also be noted that it has demonstrated optimal organization and efficiency, especially during the period of the death of Pope Francis, the Sede Vacante, and the election of Pope Leo XIV.
