New Numismatic Issues Available

The Governorate of Vatican City State presents the 2025 gold coin collection, a series of numismatic issues of great artistic and symbolic value dedicated to key moments in the Christian faith and the life of the Church.

The collection opens with the 10-euro gold coin “Battesimo 2025”, inspired by the mystery of the Baptism of the Lord. The work depicts the face of Christ receiving the water poured by the hand of John the Baptist, while the dove symbolizes the presence of the Holy Spirit uniting heaven and earth. The essential and luminous design evokes the moment when God enters human history with humility and love. As Pope Leo XIV recalled on January 11: “He who is baptized by John in the Jordan transforms this gesture into a new sign of death and resurrection, of forgiveness and communion.” The obverse bears the papal coat of arms with the inscription “LEO XIV PP. ANNO I – MMXXV.”

This is followed by the 100-euro gold coin “Il Concilio di Nicea” [The Council of Nicaea] commemorating a landmark event in Christian tradition. The obverse features the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV set within a circular mosaic, accompanied by the opening words of the Creed. The reverse offers a refined interpretation of the Council of Nicaea, with Byzantine-inspired iconographic elements and commemorative inscriptions marking the years 325–2025.

The collection is completed by the 200-euro gold coin Holy Year 2025. The work portrays a family passing through a symbolic doorway, recalling the Holy Door, emblem of the Jubilee of Hope. In the foreground, an anchor evokes Christian hope, while in the background stands St. Peter’s Basilica, the heart of Christianity and destination of the Jubilee pilgrimage.

Also available for purchase is the triptych “Cantico delle Creature” [Canticle of the Creatures], the eagerly awaited first numismatic issue of 2026, created jointly with Italy and San Marino to celebrate Saint Francis of Assisi and his famous Canticle. The project consists of three 0.75-euro copper coins dedicated to the themes of cosmic fraternity, humanity’s relationship with nature, and gratitude toward God, each designed by one of the three States.
