Three Numismatic Issues
As of today, three new numismatic issues are available on the e-shop of the Philatelic and Numismatic Sales Office of the Governorate of the Vatican City State (CFN): the €20 proof copper coin The Good Shepherd and the €5 and €10 silver coins, part of the The Twelve Apostles series, dedicated respectively to Saint Matthew Evangelist and Saint Thomas.
The €20 proof copper coin dedicated to The Good Shepherd, previously featured in an earlier issue and now enhanced by its proof striking, renews the Jubilee's message of mercy and hope: Christ seeking the lost sheep, finding it, and bringing it home.
The €5 silver coin depicts Saint Matthew the Evangelist at the moment of divine inspiration, as he receives from the angel the words that will give rise to his Gospel, expressing a faith born from listening to the Word.
The €10 silver coin is dedicated to Saint Thomas and portrays him immediately after his encounter with the Risen Christ. His hand, still suspended in gesture, together with the celebrated profession of faith, "Dominus meus, Deus meus" ("My Lord and my God"), evokes the passage from doubt to the full certainty of faith.
Through a powerful artistic language, these three new coins tell a single story: allowing oneself to be called by the Good Shepherd, embracing the Gospel, and recognizing the Risen Christ as one's Lord.
