At the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin: “Three Saturday Evenings Dedicated to Women”
“Three Saturday Evenings Dedicated to Women” is the initiative taking place in Turin, at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, on the Saturdays leading up to the feast of Pentecost on May 24.
Three consecrated women have been invited to share their testimony about the Virgin Mary. As explained by the Rector of the Basilica, the Salesian Fr. Michele Viviano, the presence of these three female figures “helps people perceive the Church — even in its highest institutions — as close and alongside the People of God; at the same time, through their thoughtful service, they can help us better understand how Mary is the Mother of the Church, and how greatly our society today needs mothers and women who find their model in Mary.”
The first speaker reflecting on Mary, Mother of the Church, was Sr. Simona Brambilla, Missionary Sister of the Consolata and Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, the first woman to hold the office of Prefect of a Dicastery. She spoke on May 2.
On the evening of Saturday, May 9, the speaker was Sr. Raffaella Petrini, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State. She was introduced by Federica Bello, editor of the diocesan weekly newspaper “La Valsusa” of Susa, followed by a musical performance by the women’s choir of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians.
On Saturday, May 16, Sr. Yvonne Reungoat speaks — she is member of the Dicastery for Bishops and former Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. She will be introduced by Lara Reale, journalist and coordinator of the diocesan websites of Turin and Susa, with music provided by the choir of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
