An exhibition at the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone
“Icons of Hope: A Journey of Faith in the Vatican Museums”
“Icons of Hope: A Journey of Faith in the Vatican Museums” is the theme of an exhibition on Eastern icons, which will take place from 16 December to 16 February 2025, at the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone in Rome.
Promoted by the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage of the Governorate of Vatican City State and by the Dicastery for Evangelization, Section for Fundamental Issues of Evangelization in the World, the initiative aims to be a cultural contribution to the Jubilee.
The icons on display are mostly paintings that were recently restored by experts from the Paintings and Wood Materials Laboratory and the Metals and Ceramics Laboratory, with the support of research conducted by the Cabinet of Scientific Research Applied to Cultural Heritage at the Vatican Museums.
The exhibition was curated by Anna Pizzamano and Pietro Beresh from the Vatican Museums’s Byzantine-Medieval Art Department, and is the fifth event of art and faith of the “The Jubilee is Culture” programme.
