As part of AI for Good summit, and at the conclusion of the week organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) within the framework of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, the morning of July 11 featured a particularly significant event: the Ambassadors Roundtable, a high-level discussion platform that brought together ambassadors and permanent representatives from major international missions to the United Nations in Geneva. Among them was Archbishop Ettore Balestrero, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and Specialized Agencies in Geneva.

Prioritizing Human and Social Values in the Development of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence offers enormous possibilities thanks to its speed and efficiency in performing complex tasks. However, it cannot replace the human person in moral judgment or in the creation of authentic relationships. It is therefore important that this transformation be marked by responsibility and discernment, to ensure that AI is developed and used for the common good, fostering the building of bridges for dialogue to promote fraternity.

Two researchers from the Vatican Observatory ( www.vaticanobservatory.org - www.vaticanobservatory.va), Fr. Gabriele Gionti, S.J., and Fr. Matteo Galaverni, have uncovered a surprising result: there are two different mathematical frameworks - known as the Jordan frame and the Einstein frame - for describing gravity when a scalar field is involved.

The fourth event of the WSIS+20 Week and the third day of AI for Good took place at the Geneva Palaexpo for Governance Day. At the heart of the event was the AI Governance Dialogue Roundtable Lunch, attended by the President of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, Sister Raffaella Petrini.

A Reflection on Progress

At the center of the second day of the AI for Good Summit, and coinciding with the third day of the WSIS+20 High-Level Event, the International Telecommunication Union celebrated a historic milestone with a gala dinner marking its 160th anniversary since its founding.
