Participation of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems in the conference “AI & Faith Dialogues” at the Pontifical Filipino College in Rome

A dialogue between ethics, fait and technological innovation

How can we make Artificial Intelligence worthy of its cost? This is the guiding question of “AI & Faith Dialogues”, an initiative born from the desire to open a space for dialogue between ethics, faith and technological innovation. A moment of collective reflection rooted in the Church’s Social Doctrine, it seeks to explore how AI can – or must – be placed at the service of human dignity.

The conference, taking place on Monday, September 8, at the Pontifical Filipino College in Rome, will feature the participation of Davide Giordano, from the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of Vatican City State and member of the Commission for Artificial Intelligence. The meeting aims to be a crossroads of voices, experiences, and perspectives: theologians, academics, scientists, technology experts and representatives of religious communities will gather to explore the spiritual, social and moral implications of the increasing use of artificial intelligence in our daily lives.

Alongside them, young researchers and professionals will lead thematic workshops on crucial issues such as biases in language models, behavioral distortions (such as sycophancy bias), and responsibility in AI development.

The day will unfold through a series of talks, panels and interactive workshops, with the aim of fostering deep and participatory dialogue. The main themes will include a) the impact of AI on human relationships and community life, b) the risks linked to algorithmic biases and digital inequalities, c) the potential of AI to support evangelization and education, and d)the moral responsibility of those who design and apply intelligent systems.

At a time when technology evolves faster than our ability to grasp its effects, “AI & Faith Dialogues” presents itself as a space for listening, dialogue and guidance.
